I guess that Afrojack signing with Island Def Jam makes more sense now, considering what he recently told Mixmag: “before I’m 30 I want to take EDM to a Jay Z level… like ‘EDM’s so hard mother*ckers wanna find me!'” What does that mean, exactly? Well, the fact that he also told them that his forthcoming debut album “has almost no drops,” could be telling, considering that Jay Z’s first true international pop stardom was with “Empire State Of Mind,” which elevated his story to stadium status. You could see songs like “The Spark” and “Ten Feet Tall” veering in that direction, but we have a feeling Afrojack has something up his sleeve. We wonder how the album might have morphed, if any, from when we spoke with Afrojack last year.
