When an anonymous teaser of the track “Animals” was released back in May, there was much speculation over who was responsible for the production. At one point, it was even assumed to be a Hardwell and GTA collaboration. Unbeknownst to the EDM world, however, the mastermind behind “Animals” was actually 17-year-old Dutch DJ and producer Martin Garrix.
After the identity of the producer was released, “Animals” became a widely supported track; every DJ seemed to feature it in their festival sets throughout the summer. “Animals” was released on the Dutch label Spinnin’ Records in June and became Garrix’s first international hit. It reached No. 1 on Beatport’s overall chart, making Garrix the youngest artist in EDM history to hold this esteemed position.
Although the track was released earlier this year, “Animals” is still the buzz on dance music charts. This past November, it even reached No. 1 on the U.K. singles chart. “Animals” elevated Garrix’s career to new and unexpected heights.
Having produced “Animals” solely as a club record, even Garrix himself is amazed by the song’s far-reaching popularity.
