Manchester based Mert Butuner has taken strides to cement himself as one of the biggest producers to watch in the last year, but he is also a quality DJ. Playing shows all over the world, he has amassed a quantity of experience that many aspiring artists will look upon with great envy. We caught up with Mert to chat about his experiences behind the decks and learn more about why he loves DJing!
Hey! So lets start simple, when did you start DJing and what attracted you to it?
I started DJing 6 years ago, I was always into music but that’s when I have discovered electronic dance music and wanted to become a DJ.
What is it your number one reason you enjoy DJing?
It’s the feeling you get when you play the songs you love and seeing the crowd share the same love for the song, and the way the crowd reacts when you switch up the tracks.
Do you have a number one gig you have played?
The number one has to be when I played at the Ministry of Sound in London, at the event headlined by Tommy Trash.
What made it the best?
It was such an amazing experience to play at such an iconic venue as Ministry of Sound alongside superstar DJs like Tommy Trash and Pink Panda.
What is your most common genre you mix, or do you enjoy switching them up?
I enjoy switching them up, and often play a lot of my own mashups, but I mostly play mainstage EDM stuff such as Electro/Progressive House, Bass House and a bit of Trance/Psy-Trance.
Do you often showcase your new songs in your mixes?
Yes, I always try to include my new tracks in my mixes and sets before release, testing them out to see the reaction of the crowd.
What is your favourite venue and why?
I am more of a festival person to be honest but my favourite venue I go to regularly is Victoria Warehouse, here in Manchester.
Finally, do you have a favourite mix online we can listen to?
Yeah! I upload DJ mixes weekly, you can listen to my latest mix here.
